Seasonal Receptionist Required at Newquay View Resort

The successful candidate must have very high standards and a good eye for detail. He/she must be well organised and have relevant experience that would allow them to work independently, as well as in a team. You will be expected to deliver a consistent, attentive and excellent quality service in this busy environment.

Main Duties:
• Welcomes visitors and guests by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring enquiries.
• To provide a high quality Reception Service to all staff, guests and visitors.
• Dealing with any enquiries via letter, email or telephone.
• Check in/Out and ensure guests are provided with directions to accommodation and information about the site
• Ensure accommodation keys are secure and accounted for at all times
• To be able to take bookings on the booking system used and amendments when necessary.

The candidate must be able to work weekends & possibly weekdays, please note hours are primarily 9am-5pm spread over 3 to 4 days. The Latest finish will be 8pm over the summer holidays. Previous experience preferred but not essential. This job is offered as a temporary contract until the end of September, although a suitable candidate may be taken on permanently.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and manage a brand new kitchen and could be the turning point in your catering career. Your role will be to co-ordinate and deliver the provision of food from our brand new catering facility situated in our busy bar and entertainment Venue. You will be responsible for the organisation and delivery of a food service area catering for holiday guests, members of the public and organised events. You will ensure that the team, resources and knowledge are in place to ensure that the cost-effective, profitable, efficient and safe preparation of food is achieved according to our organisations’ standards and business objectives. You will run an efficient kitchen service as well as be able to closely monitor consumption, stock rotation and availability, ensure quality standards are high plus have an excellent awareness of health and safety considerations.

You will be focused, efficient and be able to motivate a team whilst ensuring that our guests receive excellent service and a quality product. You will supervise kitchen/serving staff and ensure that the team is motivated and proficient in customer service, food production and safety/hygiene procedures plus take an active part in service yourself. You will be able to spot ideas for development and will be able to assist with creating and producing menus for special events, promotions and functions.

The Venue is part of a busy holiday park and provides services to holidaymakers and members of the public. The Venue consists of a bar and entertainment area (capacity 400), open daily from March to October and for private functions and key events during the winter season. A new kitchen facility is being introduced to the Venue enabling hot meals to be served throughout the day and evening as well as providing catering for events. In addition there is an upstairs bar (capacity 100), with small kitchen facility, which is open at weekends during the winter months and used for private functions.

Duties will include:

  • Co-ordinating and working within a team to prepare, cook and present food to organisational standards and customer requirements
  • Working safely, quickly and efficiently to fulfill orders as required
  • Providing a consistent quality of menu items, presented in such a way that reflects the marketing and promotional styles used by the organisation
  • Maintaining food safety in a catering and hospitality environment and complying with relevant legislation and organisational policy when preparing and producing food
  • Providing advice on allergens to customers and ensuring procedures are in place and followed to minimise the risk of allergens to customers
  • Ensuring a good stock rotation procedure is in place and food wastage is limited and recorded
  • Monitoring production yield, ordering processes, portion control and costs to ensure budgetary targets are achieved
  • Ensuring that the appropriate team structure is in place to guarantee the smooth running of food preparation and production and keeping staff motivated
  • Ensuring that all staff are trained appropriately
  • Ensuring that procedures are in place to check that required stocks are always available and of the type and quality required
  • Having contingency plans to deal with problems as they arise
  • Recording all relevant information to do with food preparation and production before and during service
  • Providing your customers with appropriate, clean and undamaged service items, condiments and accompaniments
  • Clearing customer areas of soiled, used or unused service items at appropriate times and ensuring the customer areas are kept appealing and welcoming to customers
  • Keeping your work area tidy, hygienic and free from rubbish and food debris during service and dealing correctly with the equipment used after service
  • Regularly inspecting and updating food production arrangements and continually reviewing procedures in the light of experience and problems arising during service.

Skills and experience required:

  • Previous supervisory and practical experience in a high volume food/catering environment
  • Proven experience of supervising and working within a team
  • Experience of working to targets and budgets in a commercial environment
  • Relevant food hygiene qualifications
  • Experience of ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements relating to food service
