On Wednesday 1st June, Newquay View Resort’s open dayevent gave hundreds of locals, holiday makers and partners the chance to join its team to mark the relaunch of Newquay’s largest holiday park. The adventurous resort is forging a new future as a sporty, family-friendly place for a quintessentially British seaside break. Over the last two years the park has been transformed by experienced new owners, Peter Bull Resorts Ltd. These latest developments are part of a five year investment plan aiming to make all of Peter Bull Resorts’ parks five star operations.
The booming holiday resort encompasses two former parks as one (Trevelgue and Smugglers Haven are now the all new Newquay View Resort). This substantial park is situated in a series of beautiful valleys behind Porth Beach.
Attending the event were local figureheads including Newquay’s Mayor, Councillor Carl Leadbetter, who cut the ribbon to open the new outdoor pool area. He said: “As the mayor of Newquay it gives me an enormous amount of pleasure to know that businesses like this are investing so much into the local area”. Now with an exotic new look, the colourfully cool beach-style space has been updated by Newquay based Mad Dog Developers to a new quirky style. Beside the heated pool are beach huts, a new beer garden area with picnic benches serving hot food; all in a beautiful valley setting surrounded by the stream and its wildlife. Soon the same area will feature a new outdoor play area for children to make even more improvements to the park.
Visitors at the open event enjoyed free swims in the heated indoor and outdoor pools, and some enjoyed free surf lessons with Blue Surf School – based on the park. Entrants had a chance to win free personal training sessions on-site with Academy Fitness and, Cornish Swim Academy who launched their Endless Pool Elite in the park’s indoor pool.
The new General Manager of Newquay View Resort released impressive growth figures. Sue Hogg said: “Employee numbers have more than doubled since the business was taken over in 2014. We now have a holiday home owner community of 67 – up from only 6 owners in the previous year, and the resorts’ seasonal touring caravan community has jumped from just 5 to over 50. The new leisure complex was updated and launched before Easter, so customers can enjoy a more modern and sophisticated environment in the indoor pool, with new changing rooms, showers plus a new sauna and a steam room. What’s more, a new fitness studio in association with Academy Fitness has been providing space for classes and training.”
Brand new holiday accommodation, including 60 new Elite caravans (centrally heated and double glazed), ten new glamping pods and improved electric camping/touring pitches have transformed all areas of the resort. Brand new luxury lodges and top of the range caravans are also available for sale on the resorts exclusive new owner’s development at the top of the valley. On the park. a growing foodie offering includes Carol’s café –with home-made cakes, Fish ‘n’ Chip Shop and The Hut, which serves good quality simple food, morning to late for guests and locals alike. The park also includes a convenience store, amusements and the Venue club providing evening entertainment for families.
Barry MacGregor, Managing Director of Peter Bull Resorts group added: “Peter Bull Resorts’ is justifiably proud of the transformation of these sites in Porth. Like the town itself, we are now more geared towards providing quality, family-friendly breaks and accommodation, with an increasingly foodie and active slant to the offering and events that we provide for our customers. The new high quality accommodation attracts more affluent holiday makers, and many have shown their confidence by purchasing a holiday home with us. In just two years, we have not only changed the landscape here, but created the space for exciting new activities to be based here such as Blue Surf School, Academy Fitness, Cornish Swim Academy, Carol’s Café, The Hut, the new Venue Club, the Sauna and the steam room.”
Malcom Bell, Chief Executive of Visit Cornwall commented “Approximately 14% of all domestic holidays taken in Cornwall are in the holiday parks sector” continued he states “the sophistication and range of self catering accommodation available on holiday parks provides visitors with a rich choice”.
These latest improvements to Newquay View Resort, owned by Peter Bull Resorts, have been made using the support of a £1.35million finance package from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.
Stuart Brandon, business development director for Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “It is an exciting time for the business, as it introduces new fun features at the Newquay View Resort to appeal to families, as well as being able to sell holiday homes to families and visitors across sites in Cornwall.” He also went on to say: “The Black Horse Finance facility alongside the funding that Lloyds Bank has provided for site and facility improvements has allowed the business to widen and adapt to the growing demand for holidaying in the UK. The backing Lloyds Bank has provided is part of our wider commitment to small and medium sized firms, which is why we’ve pledged to grow our lending to SMEs by £1billion net each year until 2017.”
