Bank holiday breaks in Cornwall

The weekends are the best, and bank holiday weekends, well, what’s not to love?

Bank holiday’s give us something extra to look forward to, a chance to celebrate the changeable and dramatic British seasons, and with great stories connected to ancient history. Bank Holidays were established in 1834 by the Bank of England to celebrate religious festivities – these holidays have amalgamated to what we know them as now. An excuse to escape for a seaside break in Cornwall and to spend quality time with your loved ones. Get planning your next holiday and stay at one of our three stunning resorts on the north coast.

May Day

May Day Bank holiday is a celebration of the Pagan Anglo-Saxon festival of Beltane. Typically celebrated with the iconic maypole, morris dancing, bells and crowning of the May Queen. Though, there will be plenty of places offering treats, fun activities and crafty May themed goings on all around in our creative, Celtic Cornwall.

Spring Bank Holiday

To mark the start of Spring, this holiday is simply in place to allow a day off work and school for the British public to enjoy some time away. Also known as Whitsun and traditionally started the Monday after Pentecost, this holiday is just a good excuse to enjoy the warming up of the British weather (or so we hope).

Summer Bank Holiday

Another good excuse for a weekend away, this holiday has no particular origins other than to celebrate the start of the summer months. Shops stay open for this holiday, but to standard Sunday hours, so you have a chance to have a mooch around for the day. Try a day out in Truro for some shopping goodness and of course, get down to Cornwall for a summer seaside retreat.

St Andrews Day

Now this one only applies if you are Scottish. St Andrews Day is known as a feast day to celebrate the day of the patron Saint Andrew of Scotland. If you’re a Scot you can enjoy a day of food, music and festivities, as well as some mid-week time off. Come down to Cornwall and show us how the Scots celebrate St. Andrews day.

Christmas Day

Well, we all know what this holiday consists of. Cold wintery nights, twinkly lights, warm open fires, hot chocolates, family movie nights then of course singing along to the iconic Christmas classics, waiting eagerly for Santa’s arrival and then lots of presents. No wonder Christmas is the nation’s favourite bank holiday. Did you know, here at Peter Bull we are now open throughout the Christmas season. So book a cosy Christmas with us, and remember, Santa can get into caravans  to leave his treats behind.

Boxing Day

It’s the last bank holiday of the year and what an excuse to tuck into the leftovers from Christmas Day, slob on the couch watching those strange forgotten movie classics, whilst Dad or Grandad snore away in the corner with their overly warn cracker hats. Playing and making the most of your new things and enjoying some time to yourself surrounded by your loved ones. Imagine doing all this in a cosy and Elite caravan at Newquay View Resort and following it all up with a walk along the coast or beach?
